Duck and Cover

Link to the video I chose: https://archive.org/details/DuckandC1951

My selection from the prelinger archives was Duck and Cover, which I personally believe to be a mass propaganda and society management video. Originally produced in 1951, it features Bert the Turtle showing you how to prepare for an atomic attack. The methods within the video include hiding under tables, under bus seats, finding shelter within homes and staying inside. Although it all of these recommendations and suggestions may seem silly now, in the 1950's this was an advanced film that was used as a cautionary measure throughout schools in the United States. As we move into the next topic of the Global Network Society, it is important to recognize what the Global Network society was to past generations. This film connected current events happening in the world with a PSA for students and families, attempting to save lives and prepare the population for the worst. This in a way is a prelude to the global network society of today that features minute by minute updates and real time data that allows for the fast processing of mass amounts of data.
