Parental Technology Use

I spoke to my mother about what technology she has found most useful. It came to me as no surprise that she did not hesitate in responding that it was her cell phone. My mother was one of the few people who had access to the first cell phones. She described it as having been bulky, not having good signal and needing a huge separate briefcase-sized battery. She said that she took just as much time getting used to it as it took to become a more widely used technology. Especially with the advent of smart phones, it has allowed her to be more productive and to help her team even when she is not physically in the office. With a smart phone, she can check her e-mail and video conference with coworkers from around the world. She thinks that overall it has made her job easier, but comes with the stipulation that she is always connected to work (whether she wants to be or not) and it can be difficult to detach when she wants to get away.
